Take Action to Protect Our Wild Animals and Strengthen the Hunt Ban

EDM116 - Hunting Act 2004

Proposed by Chris Williamson on 27/05/2010.

That this House reaffirms its support for the Hunting Act 2004 and notes that there have been almost 140 convictions under the Act; recognises that the vast majority of the public support the Act across all regional, political, social and religious divides; and therefore believes that any attempt to repeal the Act would be a retrograde step and out of keeping with a civilised society.

On October 26th, the Two-Hundredth MP signed the EDM.  Few EDMs reach such a number. .......................................................................................

Many thanks are due to Labour MP John McDonnell who tabled the following Early Day Motion in December 2008. It was signed by over 100 MPs.
EDM 122 - HUNTING WITH DOGS
4.12.2008 - McDonnell, John
That this House notes that prior to Parliament's decision to outlaw the hunting of wild animals with dogs, a reported 50,000 hunt members and supporters signed a declaration that they would disobey such a law; further notes that there is mounting evidence that hunts are avoiding the law and by various devices are continuing the barbaric practice of hunting foxes down to a bloody kill and claiming that such kills are accidental; and therefore calls on the Government to act to prevent this abuse of the spirit of the anti-hunting legislation by means of an amendment to the Hunting Act to include a reckless behaviour clause.

EDM 122 attracted 102 signatures
